Kenya AB | Muranga County | Kamagogo Coffee Factory
About this coffee:
The AA, AB and other grades used to classify lots in Kenya are an indication of screen size only. They are not an indication of cup quality. The AB grade in Kenya is equivalent to screen size 16 (16/64 of an inch) used at other origins. AA grades often command higher prices at auction though this grade is no indication of cup quality and an AB lot from a better farm may cup better. PB (denoting Peaberry) is the smallest screen size.
Established in 1970s and Kamagogo Coffee Factory is affiliated to Kiru Farmers’ Cooperative Society. Its membership stands at 1,000. The factory has coffee cherry catchment and washing station in the area where local farmers who are members of the cooperative, delivery coffee cherry for regional bulking. The coffee cherry is hand sorted, washed, fermented, and laid out on raised beds to dry where it is hand sorted for defects again.
The plantation is dressed with red-volcanic soil that infuses it with all the mineral and organic goodness necessary for optimum production. It experiences an annual rainfall of
1,200mm at 1,800m above sea level. In addition, it enjoys cool temperatures of 13-24°C.
Delivering consistency with its balanced sweetness and acidity.
